At Deer Park School we feel that all students should have a chance  to have a say about their school environment and most importantly the learning in the lesson.

Student voice is very important to us at Deer Park.  As you progress through the school there will be many ways you can contribute towards our community and have your say about what happens in our school.

Here are some of the ways you can become involved in Student Leadership:

• School Focus Group Member - You could become a school focus group member meeting regularly, during tutor time, with their other student members to discuss things related to school life. A focus meeting looks at a key aspect of school life, these have included Environment Issues, Community Issues and R&R.
• Learning Leader - Another way you could have your voice heard is by becoming a Learning Leader. Students are trained to observe lessons and give feedback to teachers on what they liked in the lesson and what might be improved. Although you can’t do this until Year 8 – you could be on a department student evaluator group in Year 7. These groups meet each term with the Director of Learning to discuss what was good and bad about the learning in that subject. Being a part of one of these groups is a great way to really make a difference to the learning experience for all your friends and fellow students.
• Vote - On a simpler level, during tutor time there will be opportunities to vote on current topics.

Rights Respecting School

At Wildern Academy Trust we are very proud of the Unicef Gold Award accreditation for Wildern School. We believe that the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) is at the heart of everything we do.

Deer Park School is already on the journey to becoming a Rights Respecting School and we will be working closely with our students and community to achieve our Bronze, Silver and Gold accreditation. 

Student leadership and student voice (linked to Article 12 - the right to express your views) is highly valued at Deer Park and plays a crucial role in driving improvement across the school.  It also provides students with opportunities to grow as leaders, decision makers of the future in order that they are empowered to enter the wider world as active global citizens.
